Balkan Youth Activism Joins the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy Alliance
Balkan Youth Activism (BYA) is pleased to announce its official admission to the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Alliance, following the successful approval of its application by UNESCO.
The UNESCO MIL Alliance is a global multistakeholder network that brings together organizations, academic institutions, media professionals, policymakers, and civil society actors committed to advancing media and information literacy as a fundamental pillar of inclusive, informed, and democratic societies.
BYA’s accession to the Alliance reflects the organization’s continued commitment to promoting critical thinking, digital citizenship, media literacy, youth participation, and lifelong learning through local, regional, and international initiatives. Membership in the Alliance provides an opportunity to contribute to global dialogue, exchange knowledge and good practices, and collaborate with partners worldwide in support of UNESCO’s vision for empowering individuals to effectively access, evaluate, create, and share information in an increasingly complex digital environment.
As an official member of the UNESCO MIL Alliance, Balkan Youth Activism will actively contribute to initiatives that strengthen media and information literacy among young people, encourage responsible digital engagement, and promote resilience against misinformation and disinformation. The organization also looks forward to participating in international cooperation, capacity-building activities, research, policy dialogue, and collaborative projects that advance the objectives of the Alliance.
This recognition represents an important milestone in BYA’s institutional development and reinforces its role as a regional actor dedicated to empowering young people through education, innovation, intercultural dialogue, and active citizenship.
